Para-educator
Reports To: Classroom Teacher, Coordinator of Primary Education and Preschool Programs
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Assists classroom teacher in teaching a variety of skills to students who are visually impaired and/or multiple handicapped.
- Prepare materials and equipment to be used by the students in the classroom.
- Follow through on teacher’s lesson plans, classroom routine, assigned tasks and direction from therapists.
- Work directly with students individually and in groups under the direction of the teacher.
- Provide assistance to classroom teacher in daily tasks with students such as feeding, toileting, positioning and handling (lifting) and data documentation and other clerical tasks.
- Adhere to agency policy and protocol.
- Maintain students’ confidentiality.
- Be flexible to assist where there is a need.
- Assist in center based infant program as directed by infant program staff.
- Attend scheduled staff development training and meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school education or equivalent.
- Genuine interest to work with children.
- Ability to follow direction and adapt to new and/or unique situations.
- Ability to establish rapport and appropriate relationships with students and their families.
- Demonstrate a progression in knowledge and skills through job performance.
