“She is absolutely amazing”

Foundation for Blind Children paraeducator turned Inventory Manager, Jesse Roan, wins Star of the Month award for the month of May.

Jesse joined FBC as a paraeducator. She currently manages FBC’s Media Center’s vast inventory of braille, large print, equipment and more. Her days are filled with ordering supplies to produce and ship braille or large print materials, coordinating American Printing House’s Federal Quota to obtain funding to support Arizona’s blind or visually impaired students and managing loaned items.

“There’s just more joy in it”, says Jesse about her role that helps students who need it most.

While Jesse connects students in Arizona with necessary materials to learn alongside their sighted peers. She is often able to support students outside of Arizona who might not have access to the extensive services FBC provides.

Most recently, Jesse processed a record number of material and equipment returns from the 2021-2022 school year. “Every cart was full until we were stacking boxes on the floor,” says Jesse about the massive undertaking.

“She takes it day by day with a smile on her face knowing that her work directly impacts what can get to the classroom”, says a coworker about Jesse’s work ethic. “Jesse never hesitates to find ways to connect with students on campus and with teachers to create unique experiences. She is absolutely amazing.”

For this, Jesse was nominated and awarded FBC’s May Star of the Month award. Jesse says she was excited to receive the award but humbly feels she could always do more.

It’s staff like Jesse, who embody FBC’s mission on a daily basis, making FBC’s work possible. Thank you.
