Esme Peterson, Family Support Specialist, wins July Star of the Month award from peers at Foundation for Blind Children.
The adjustment to vision loss or other life events can be challenging for clients, their families and FBC staff members. Esme works within FBC’s Adult Comprehensive Program to provide emotional support when needed. She creates space for students or others to express themselves without judgement. “It’s almost like word vomit. Sometimes you just need to let it out”, says Esme.
Esme earned a Master’s in Social Work with an emphasis in Policy, Administration, and Community from Arizona State University. She thrives as FBC’s Family Support Specialist with 10 years of experience under her belt. Esme previously worked with at-risk youth, families experiencing homelessness and job seekers.
“She demonstrates our mission of providing education, tools, and services to clients and their families that enable them to achieve greater independence. Esme’s work ethic shows FBC’s core values. She contributes to a great work environment, collaborates with team members and community partners to give exceptional service, and she remains mindful of financial responsibility when planning activities. Esme is an asset to all departments at FBC and should be recognized for her great service”, says a peer who nominated Esme to receive FBC’s Star of the Month award.
Esme was humbled by her coworkers’ kind words. She says, “I just want to grow in my role and continue supporting FBC. However that looks like, that’s what makes me happy.”
