Braille Technician

Ryan Smolko is the Braille Technician at FBC. In this role, Ryan is responsible for transcribing documents into braille, embossing braille textbooks, maintaining the braille library at the Foundation, and bringing in new literary books for patrons of all ages.  Ryan joined FBC in 2022 as the Large Print Technician, before quickly learning braille and becoming a transcriber.  Ryan is passionate about building literacy and ensuring equal access to all recreational reading materials.  His favorite genres are fantasy, science fiction, and psychology.

Ryan has a Bachelor’s degree in History from Hastings College in Nebraska, and a Master’s degree in American History from Texas A&M University. A native of Arizona, Ryan spends his time reading, memorizing weird trivia facts, watching hockey, and playing with every dog he meets.
